Sony’s recently released Xperia Z3 is the company’s newest flagship device, and just like other Xperia Z family members, this one is also not scared of water. To put to the test the Xperia Z3’s waterproof abilities, Carphone Warehouse decided to record an unusual unboxing video.
The InvenSense device can operate as a six axis inertial sensor, or as either a three-axis gyroscope or a three-axis accelerometer. It is rated to consume 3.4 mA in the six-axis mode, 3.2 mA in the gyroscope mode and 450 µA in the accelerometer normal mode. By contrast, the Bosch device operates as a 3-axis accelerometer only and it consumes 130 µA of current in the accelerometer normal mode. Both devices offer two low power levels of operation for the accelerometer function. The InvenSense device actually consumes less current in its lowest power mode, with a 1 Hz update rate.
The main benefit of the InvenSense is full six-axis integration of the data by the on-chip digital motion processor (DMP). This will provide a direct benefit for gaming and other applications that need sophisticated inertial sensing capabilities. In addition the InvenSense provides significantly higher sensitivity than the Bosch device. The price however, is higher power consumption.
We all know that Samsung is an absolutely huge company but we never realized it was quite this big before. Ars Technica's Ron Amadeo just looked up employment statistics for several major tech companies by sifting through their 10-K files and found that Samsung Electronics — not Samsung as a whole but just Samsung's electronics division — employs an astonishing 275,133 people. For perspective, that's more than the combined number of people employed by Apple, Google and Microsoft.

As of today, Apple has stopped signing the iOS 7.1.2 firmware, which will prevent users from downgrading from iOS 8 back to iOS 7 (via iClarified ). This means that users who are unhappy with the changes that iOS 8 have brought or unsatisfied with bugs introduced with the update will be unable to downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2.
Listen up, people: The videos of bent iPhone 6 Plusses will do very little damage to Apple's long-term reputation. So long as Apple is correct when it says that your iPhone 6 Plus isn't likely to bend under normal usage, this issue will go away very quickly, just as "Antennagate" went away quickly when Apple gave out free bumpers and just as "Mapsgate" went away very quickly once Tim Cook apologized for it and recommended that people download different mapping apps. That said, there are some iPhone fans out there who are so irate over the whole issue that they've seemingly lost their minds about it.
Comcast knows that its customer service reputation is terrible — the question is whether it actually cares. With its proposed merger with Time Warner Cable up for regulatory review, Comcast certainly wants to at least give off the impression that it's working night and day to make things better. DSLReports flags a new blog post from Comcast Cable president and CEO Neil Smit, who says that Comcast is finally getting around to focussing on improving its customer service with the hire of a new executive named Charlie Herrin, who "has been named SVP, Customer Experience." What's really noteworthy, however, are Smit's explanations for why Comcast's customer service has been so infamously bad over the years.
