Are Tablets Bad For Toddlers

Tablets are terrific tools that are also fun to use but there are definitely limits to how much you should let your children interact with them. The Telegraph brings us word that the U.K.-based Association of Teachers and Lecturers is claiming that children who spend too much time using tablets are unable to play with standard blocks or write with pens and paper. What's more, they say young children who spend all night playing tablet games find it impossible to pay attention in classrooms because they're seemingly going through withdrawal from being constantly visually stimulated by bright displays.

NSA's Prism Internet Spying

The NSA on Wednesday said “unequivocally” that U.S. tech giants were “fully aware” of the agency’s data collecting operations, The Guardian reports, even though tech companies denied having any knowledge of the Prism program, or helping the NSA in any way. In fact, since the Edward Snowden leaks hit papers and the Internet, tech companies have tried to reassure customers that their privacy is very important to them by either enabling encryption for their online services, asking the government to allow them to disclose the volume and type of data they share with the agencies, and/or campaigning against the NSA’s bulk data collection efforts.

Target Hack Investigation

The massive hack that hit Target in the weeks before Christmas 2013 wouldn’t have been possible without someone actually stealing the credentials of a vendor, Reuters revealed. “The ongoing forensic investigation has indicated that the intruder stole a vendor’s credentials, which were used to access our system,” Target spokeswoman Molly Snyder said, without revealing what was taken.

Intel Voice Recognition Technology

Siri, Apple's voice-enabled personal assistant software, was very cool when it first came out but it hasn't exactly aged gracefully. For one thing, it's slow compared to other voice recognition services and for another it needs an Internet connection to function at all. Quartz reports that Intel is working on voice recognition technology that's designed to be both faster than Siri and to work without an Internet connection so you can use it wherever you need it.
