Bank of America this week released a new advertisement promoting Apple Pay, joining a growing number of financial institutions including Chase and Wells Fargo that are advertising Apple's recently launched mobile payments service.

The thirty-second video follows a businesswoman as she shops for her family and herself, buying a shirt, a dog bone, and some lipstick all with her iPhone. She then is seen leaving the store via an elevator, winking as the camera fades away.

Similar to previous commercials, the Bank of America ad focuses on the convenience of using Apple Pay to make payments with a Bank of America credit card. The narrator ends the ad by promoting Apple Pay as "the new, easy, secure, smart way to pay with a simple touch."

Interest in Apple Pay is increasing as additional banks and retailers start adopting the payment option. One of the newest retailers is the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, which is the the home of the Orlando Magic basketball team, with Apple Pay support launching at concession stands and other retail locations within the arena tomorrow. Apple recently confirmed that its mobile payments service now supports cards representing about 90 percent of the credit card purchase volume in the United States.

TD Bank plans to soft launch Apple Pay on Tuesday, December 16, according to a source with knowledge of the bank's plans. As of tomorrow, the U.S. subsidiary of the Canadian bank will begin allowing customers to add their TD Bank Visa Debit or Credit Card to Apple Pay, making purchases with their iPhone 6 or 6 Plus.

As with other credit and debit cards, TD Bank cards will be added via Passbook or in the Apple Pay Settings menu. Some customers may be required to confirm their cards by calling TD Bank's customer service numbers.

Eligible cards are listed below:

- TD Bank Visa Debit Card

- TD Bank Business Visa Debit Card

- TD Bank Private Client Visa Debit Card

- TD Easy Rewards Visa (Platinum & Signature) Credit Card

- TD Cash Rewards Visa (Platinum & Signature) Credit Card

- TD Payment Plus Visa Platinum Credit Card

- TD First Class Visa Signature Credit Card

- TD Business Solutions Visa Credit Card

- TD Simply Flexible Visa Business Card

TD Bank employees have been training for the Apple Pay launch since early December, and training wrapped up last week ahead of tomorrow's soft launch. Though Apple Pay is soft launching at TD Bank on Tuesday and will become available to customers, a full launch, complete with advertising, is not expected to come until mid-January.

TD Bank's Apple Pay support is launching later than many other banks, but TD Bank has been an eager partner and announced that it would support Apple Pay shortly after the service first launched.

Apple formed partnerships with many of the largest banks in the United States that saw them adding support for Apple Pay just after it was released, but Apple has also been hard at work getting additional banks on board. In November, for example, several major banks began accepting Apple Pay, including Navy Federal, USAA, US Bank, and PNC.

According to Apple, more than 500 banks are signed on to support Apple Pay and are working on Apple Pay support. A running list of banks that currently support Apple Pay can be found on Apple's site.

iOS 8 Security Flaw

Researchers at California-based cybersecurity firm FireEye have detailed what they claim to be a major new security vulnerability that has been found in Apple's iOS 8 software. The security flaw, which they have dubbed "Masque Attack," reportedly allows an attacker to replace authentic apps on a target's iPhone or iPad with a similar app with the same appearance. Any data then entered into the app can be obtained by the hacker.

For example, an app that mirrors the look of a banking app on the user's phone can be installed, and then the target's username and password can be stolen when he or she tries to enter them in the malicious app.

AgileBits today updated its 1Password app for iOS to version 5.1, adding support for the larger-screened iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. With native support for the two new devices, the app is no longer zoomed in and is now able to display more information on the screen.

Along with built-in support for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, 1Password has also been updated with improved Touch ID and PIN functionality. Before the update, it was unclear why the Master Password would often be requested when Touch ID integration was enabled, but the Auto-Lock settings have now been retuned to remove confusion.

The app has gained a new setting that allows users to disable third-party keyboards within 1Password to keep passwords more secure, and several bug fixes have been implemented.
- The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are out. Were you one of the lucky millions who got one already? 1Password 5.1 has been updated to give you a beautiful experience on these new devices with 3x images and improved rich icons.

- Touch ID and the PIN Code have been significantly improved. The Auto-Lock timeout will now function across both the Master Password and Touch ID/PIN Code, removing the confusion the separate settings caused. The iOS Keychain will be used to store the Master Password when Touch ID/PIN Code is enabled, allowing Touch ID/PIN Code to be used reliably in the 1Password Extension. Configure what works best for you in Settings->Security.

- Tag you're it. You can now add brand new tags to your items.

- Customer keyboard preference. Choose to enable or disable 3rd party custom keyboards within the Advanced Settings.

- Many fixes for the most popular issues and crashes

1Password can be downloaded from the App Store for free, with the app's full functionality unlockable through a $9.99 in-app purchase. [Direct Link]

Best Buy is running a one-day sale on all of its iPad Air models, discounting the prices by $75 across the board. With the discount, the price on the entry-level 16 GB Wi-Fi only iPad Air is $424.99, down from $499, while the price on the entry-level 16 GB Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Air drops down from $629 to $554.99.

ipadairdeal

While these aren't the lowest prices that we've ever seen on Apple's iPad Air models, they are the most significant discount that's been offered in the past few months. Best Buy also offers $50 off all iPad models through its educational site, which means students can get an iPad Air for as low as $374.99.

According to our Buyer's Guide, the iPad Air is rated as "Caution" because it's approaching the end of its product cycle. Apple is said to be working on a second-generation iPad Air with Touch ID and an A8 processor that may debut in October. Best Buy's current iPad Air deal is still an excellent way to get an iPad Air at a low price, especially for customers who will not mind the absence of Touch ID.

Best Buy's iPad Air deal is good for one day only and will expire after today.

Facebook Messenger iOS Users

Congratulations, Facebook: You may have found a way to annoy your user base even more than Google did with Google+. Facebook's decision to strip the chat functionality from its mothership mobile app and instead force users to use the separate Facebook Messenger app to chat with friends has predictably led to a big backlash as iPhone owners have been bombing Facebook Messenger with one-star reviews in the App Store for the past several days.
