'Opera Coast' Browser for iOS Gains Discover Feature, Turbo Data Compression [iOS Blog]

The Opera Coast webkit-based browser for iOS was today updated to version 4.0, adding Opera Software's Turbo data compression technology to make browsing websites on the iPhone and iPad much faster on congested networks.
With Opera Turbo data compression, each website a user visits is compressed down to a fraction of its original size, which both speeds up loading times and uses less data. According to Opera, its data compression techniques are useful when browsing on slow cell phone networks or on crowded Wi-Fi hotspots. Opera Turbo is enabled by default and will kick in whenever a user is on a GRPS or Edge network.
Along with the new data compression engine for faster browsing, Opera Coast has been updated with a new "Discover" feature that lets users find interesting news. Whenever a search is opened in the Opera Coast browser, a range "the latest and greatest" articles for users to browse through will be displayed above the search box.
On the iPhone 6 Plus, there's a new widescreen layout, and the update brings support for landscape mode. There's also a new "Share" button that makes it easier for users to share content from the browser to various social networks like Facebook and Twitter, and Opera Coast supports Handoff, letting users seamlessly switch between the iOS app and Opera for Mac for the first time.

Amazing but true: Appointing a former cable lobbyist to run the Federal Communications Commission might not be the best way to protect net neutrality. At its Adobe MAX conference today, Adobe is announcing updates for nearly all of its iOS apps, bringing new features that emphasize the creation of shapes and brushes along with enhanced syncing with the company's Creative Cloud services. The updates come alongside a new Creative SDK to allow developers to build mobile apps connecting to Creative Cloud, as well as a number of enhancements to the core Creative Cloud apps.
Building on its existing Adobe Kuler app, which allows users to create color palettes using any photo and which is now being rebranded Adobe Color CC, the company is now rolling out two additional "Capture" apps for mobile: Adobe Brush CC, which turns photos into brushes for use throughout Photoshop and Illustrator apps, and Adobe Shape CC, which automatically converts high-contrast photos of objects into vector art for use in Illustrator.

Meanwhile, the newest version of Adobe Photoshop Mix is now a universal app for both iPad and iPhone, while Adobe Photoshop Sketch brings new acrylic and pastel brushes and integration with brush sets created in Adobe Brush CC.
Adobe Illustrator Line now allows users to utilize content from the Creative Cloud Market and includes new smart spacing and grid tools. Adobe Lightroom for iOS now allows specified users to comment on photos shared through Lightroom's web interface, and includes additional language support in addition to the ability to sync GPS information from the iPhone with Lightroom desktop.

Finally, Adobe Premiere Clip lets users edit video shot on an iPhone or iPad right from the device, or send to the full Premiere Pro CC for more advanced editing.

All of Adobe's updated iOS apps require a free membership to Adobe Creative Cloud, while desktop apps like Adobe Photoshop CC and Adobe Illustrator CC require separate subscriptions. So we know that the iPhone 6 Plus will bend if given enough force. The more important question is whether it will bend as part of your everyday use. Consumer Reports, which wasn't afraid to slap Apple around over the iPhone 4's flawed antenna placement, delivers what looks like the definitive take on the issue and the answer is, "No."

We’re pretty big fans of Automatic’s savvy trip tracker ‘round these parts, but one of our primary gripes when reviewing it late last year was the dearth of accessible data. For those just catching up, Automatic plugs into your vehicle’s OBD-II port — a port that you may not even be aware of unless you’re mechanically inclined. From there, it syncs with your iPhone or Android handset via Bluetooth each time you take a trip, collecting data on mileage, fuel economy, hard braking, etc. It gathers oodles of useful information, but didn’t really go so far as to make a ton of it available to the motorist.
That’s changing somewhat with today’s introduction of Web Dashboard.

Although T-Mobile's assorted "Uncarrier" moves have done a lot to undermine the wireless industry's traditional two-year contract business model, Verizon still thinks two-year contracts are a wonderful thing, mostly because they're guaranteed revenue for a fixed period of time. Because of this, it's not surprising to see Verizon is doing its best to keep the two-year contract model alive by shamelessly trying to convince users that signing a two-year deal is in their best interests. However, Droid Life points us to a new Verizon promotion that really takes things to a whole new level of stupid.

One of the main features Windows 9 is expected to offer users is the return of the Start menu, which Windows users are anxiously waiting for, and Myce has obtained new screenshots showing it. Initially expected to arrive in Windows 8 Update 2 that’s said to launch on August 12, the Start menu is now said to only be ready next year, when Windows 9 “Threshold” is released.

We've had more than our fill of iPhone 6 mockups, which is why we're happy to see that mockups for the next-generation iPad Air have started popping up on the Internet as well. Japanese website ASCII Plus has posted several high-quality pictures of a next-gen iPad Air dummy that show us some of the subtle design changes that Apple is planning to make with its next tablet.

Will anything surprise us about the iPhone 6 when it releases this year? Nowhereelse.fr has posted yet another leaked picture showing a mockup of the silver iPhone 6, although this new picture is of much higher quality than the leaked pictures of the silver iPhone 6 mockup that we reported on last week. The picture shows a device whose power button has been moved from the top to the side just as we've seen in previous leaks, although it's hard to tell from the angle of the picture whether the new mockup has the more curved edges we've seen in other iPhone 6 leaks.

Another day, another set of iPhone 6 rumors that trickles out from the East. According to the latest report, Apple's next-generation iPhone 6 is getting ready to enter its mass production phase in the coming months. The timing would align perfectly with a launch this fall, which is the timeframe expected by most industry watchers. Interestingly, however, this new report suggests that Apple's second new iPhone for 2014 won't hit mass production until late in the third quarter, which obviously suggests that it won't debut until sometime later in the year or even sometime in early 2015.
