New Kindle Paperwhite to reportedly launch in early 2014

Amazon is reportedly working on a new Kindle Paperwhite model, which should arrive at some point in early 2014, according to TechCrunch . The flagship feature of the new reading device is said to be a new high-resolution display that will have a 300 pixel-per-inch (ppi) density. The publication also reports that it has seen a prototype of the e-reader, which has a display made of matte glass instead of plastic and which seemed “flush with the edges” rather than recessed. In spite of using glass, the new device is lighter than its predecessor.

Samsung doesn't just want to beat Apple in the tablet market, the company wants to obliterate Apple. Samsung practically came out of nowhere a few years ago and in terms of smartphone shipment volume, the company now absolutely crushes the competition. In fact, in each of the past two quarters, Samsung shipped more smartphones than each of its top rivals combined. Now, Samsung is seemingly looking to kick its tablet efforts into high gear and dominate the market as it did with smartphones.

FCC unveils new way to keep your carrier honest

You can't go an hour without hearing an ad from wireless carriers about how they have the fastest, biggest or best 4G network, but do you really have a way to test their claims? Per The Wall Street Journal , the Federal Communications Commission this week unveiled its new FCC Speed Test mobile app designed to measure speeds of wireless carriers' mobile networks. The FCC will collect data from everyone who uses the app to make a big database showing which carriers offer the best speeds and most consistent service in different areas. The FCC unveiled a similar program for fixed broadband services back in 2011 that it has used to keep ISPs honest by comparing their advertised speeds to what they actually deliver.
