The Galaxy Gear is reportedly an epic flop, has sold under 50,000 units

As amazing as it seems, Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch may be an even bigger bomb than the ill-fated Facebook-centric HTC First smartphone. BusinessKorea reports that Samsung has sold less than 50,000 Galaxy Gears so far, a stunningly low number that would put even the worst flops released this year to shame. That Samsung's device has reportedly flopped this badly is rather surprising since the company poured a lot of money into an ad campaign designed to highlight its first-ever smartwatch. Samsung has insisted that the Gear is just the first step in the long evolution of the smartwatch, with one executive even comparing it an unripened tomato. If sales figures of under 50,000 sold are accurate, however, then it seems the device looks much more like a rotten tomato to many consumers.

Apple’s additional Samsung patent demands down to ‘only’ $380 million

Apple must look longingly back at the days when a jury awarded it $1 billion in its patent suit against Samsung — ever since, the company has had to lower its expectations. CNET reports that Apple on Wednesday said that it was seeking an additional $380 million from Samsung on top of the $600 million that the company has already paid. A jury had originally awarded Apple more than $1 billion but Judge Lucy Koh this past spring reduced that number by around $450 million.

Samsung is bringing the best Galaxy S4 to Europe long before the U.S.

In order to give its flagship phone a shot in the arm, Samsung released the LTE-Advanced compatible Galaxy S4 in South Korea over the summer, complete with the quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor. The refreshed smartphone is now making its way to Europe, starting with a launch in Sweden next month and likely spreading throughout the continent soon afterwards. Samsung Germany has already listed the upgraded Galaxy S4 on its website, but did not include a release date or pricing information. Samsung has been quiet regarding the Galaxy S4 with LTE-A in terms of an international release, especially in the U.S., but with the recent launch of the Galaxy Note 3 and the inevitable Galaxy S5 announcement in the coming months, there's no telling how far the upgraded S4 will reach before Samsung shifts its focus to new products.

New LG ads fire shots at tiny iPhone screen, call Samsung phones slow

Samsung and Apple have remained perched atop the smartphone sales charts for quite some time. Other vendors have endlessly vied for third place, and occasionally taking pot shots at their chief competition isn't unheard of. LG is the latest manufacturer to take aim with a series of targeted advertisements which have begun appearing on Apple, Samsung and HTC phones. Business Insider has collected a sampling of these ads, which include quips such as "Waiting for your Galaxy to catch up?" or "Hard to read this on your iPhone?" One ad seems to be even more explicit, stating the LG G2 has a 20% faster processor than Samsung's Galaxy S4. AT&T received some flak after making similar claims in relation to its service versus those offered by other carriers, so let's see how LG fares. A couple of the ads can be seen below.
