Nokia Lumia 520 Worldwide Sales

Outside of the Apple ecosystem, affordability reigns supreme. According to the latest data from AdDuplex , the budget-priced Lumia 520 has now taken more than 30% of the Windows Phone market share, and when combined with the Lumia 521, the two phones make up more than one-third of all Windows Phone sales worldwide. And if you narrow the results to just Windows Phone 8 devices, then the Lumia 520 and 521 account for more than 40% of all devices sold. The Lumia 520 has been the undisputed leader of the Windows Phone market for quite some time, and to further cement itself in that position, the phone has captured an additional 4% of the market over the past month.

HTC One Sales 2013

Apple and Samsung continued to completely crush smartphone their smaller smartphone rivals in 2013. Despite their best efforts, companies like LG and HTC launched huge misses this year that will continue to haunt them moving into 2014, according to a new report. Digitimes on Friday noted that companies like LG, HTC and Huawei had big ambitions for their flagship smartphones in 2013 but each vendor fell flat with their premier handsets, again signaling more struggles ahead.

A la carte cable arrives at last… in Canada

Is a la carte cable really a "farce" as 21st Century Fox CEO Chase Carey claims? Well we're about to find out because our neighbors to the north are doing us the favor of giving it a try. Per The Hollywood Reporter , TV subscribers in Ontario this week will be able to buy channels a la carte from IPTV startup VMedia, whose UChoose Store will charge subscribers around $2.12 per month for each channel they subscribe to. Subscribers will also have the option of buying small bundles of 6 channels that will cost $1.65 each per month or 12 channels that will cost $1.41 each per month.

Windows Phone European Market Share

Windows Phone adoption has been surging in Europe, thanks mostly to the efforts of Nokia. Kantar Worldpanel's latest data on European smartphone market share shows that Windows Phones accounted for 9.2% of all smartphone sales across five major European markets in August, led by low-cost Nokia handsets such as the Lumia 520 and the Lumia 620.
